About Dawning of a New Day

Dawning of a New Day is a handwriting typeface in a joined cursive style. The line is thin and keeps one thickness throughout, as from a fine ballpoint; lowercase letters lean slightly to the right and link along the baseline, while the capitals are tall with open loops, most visibly in D, H, J and L. The lowercase is small beside the capitals and the long ascenders, so the face looks light and airy and needs a generous size. Kimberly Geswein made the font from a friend's handwriting; her note says the friend picked the name and that the fluid strokes are meant to carry the hopeful feeling of a fresh start. There is a single Regular style, with no bold and no italic. The 263 glyphs cover Western European Latin, including the letters for French, German, Spanish and the Nordic languages.

Where Dawning of a New Day works

Handwritten notes and letters
A real person's cursive, with its small irregular loops, makes a printed message look written by hand.
Greeting cards and informal invitations
Looped capitals start names and greetings, and the thin line leaves plenty of white space on a card.
Quotes on images
A short quotation set large keeps the airy pen line legible over a plain background.
Journals, planners and scrapbooks
Dates, headings and labels in cursive match hand-drawn layouts.
Sign-offs and signatures
The capitals of the specimen, such as D and H, give a closing name the look of a signature.
