About Bad Script

Bad Script is a handwriting typeface with a thin, even line and a steady rightward slant. According to the official notes it began as a logotype of six letters and was then built into a full font, drawn entirely on a tablet so that it would resemble the designer's own hand in a tidier, more regular form. In the specimen the lowercase is small next to long ascenders and descenders, letters stand apart instead of joining, and several capitals open with a long entry stroke. The numerals rise and fall around the line like written figures. The family is a single Regular style with 801 glyphs covering Latin, Latin Extended, Cyrillic and Vietnamese. The name table credits Roman Shchyukin of Gaslight Type Foundry, with character set expansion by Cyreal; an update in 2024 revised kerning and language coverage.

Where Bad Script works

Notes and captions that should look written
The thin single-line stroke reads as a quick pen note beside photos, diagrams or product shots.
Invitations and greeting cards
Slanted, unjoined letters with long capitals give names and short messages a personal look without the formality of a looped script.
Russian and Ukrainian headings
Cyrillic was part of the design from the start, so a Latin and a Cyrillic version of the same line match in slant and stroke.
Quotes on social media graphics
Set large, the light line leaves room for a background image; one style is enough for a single phrase.

Download the family and host the files on your own site, then declare them in CSS. Please do not link to the files on trendhub.net: preview files here are subsets and their addresses change.

Things to know

One style, and a light one
Bad Script has only Regular 400, and its stroke is thin. There is no bold for small sizes or busy backgrounds.
Letters do not connect
Although the name says script, the lowercase letters in the specimen are separate. The site lists the family as handwriting for that reason.
Small lowercase
The lowercase is short relative to ascenders and capitals, so the face needs a larger point size than a text font to read comfortably.
