About Racing Sans One

Racing Sans One is a display sans serif in one slanted, heavy style. In the specimen the letters lean forward, thick stems narrow sharply where curves join them, and round letters such as O and e keep small, tilted counters. That thick-and-thin contrast is the point of the design: the official notes explain that the earliest sans serifs with lowercase had high contrast, that the genre later moved to monoline shapes, and that Racing Sans pays tribute to the older manner after its makers studied American foundry specimens from 1897 and 1906. There is no upright companion and no variable axis. Its 471 glyphs cover the Latin and Latin Extended character sets. The family is credited to Impallari Type; the copyright notice names Pablo Impallari and Rodrigo Fuenzalida. Racing Sans One is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Racing Sans One works

Motorsport and event posters
The built-in slant and heavy strokes suggest speed in a race title or fixture headline without added effects.
Sports team graphics
Numerals lean at the same angle as the letters, which suits scorelines, player numbers and match-day banners.
Retro wordmarks
High stroke contrast in a sans serif recalls foundry type from around 1900 and gives a short brand name a period feel.
Sale and promo headlines
The heavy style fills a banner in two or three words; its tight counters need large sizes to stay open.
