About Bodoni Moda

Bodoni Moda is a serif family in the Bodoni style built for digital use. Its signature is extreme contrast: in the specimen heavy vertical stems meet hairline horizontals and thin, flat serifs without brackets, and letters such as a, c, f and r finish in round ball terminals. The stress is strictly vertical. Bodoni Moda is a variable font with two axes. Weight runs from 400 to 900 through six named weights, Regular to Black; optical size runs from 6 to 96, so the design can be tuned for small text or for large display sizes. With italics there are 12 named styles. The fonts hold 562 glyphs and cover Latin and Latin Extended. Owen Earl designed the family at indestructible type, and it is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Bodoni Moda works

Magazine mastheads and headlines
At the high end of the optical size axis the hairlines become very fine, which is the effect a large title wants.
Luxury packaging and brand names
Vertical stress, ball terminals and sharp contrast give a short name a formal, polished look.
Posters in Black weight
Black 900 thickens the stems while the hairlines stay thin, producing a dramatic thick-thin rhythm.
Captions and short text
Lower optical size values adapt the design for small sizes, where display cuts of this style usually fall apart.
Invitations and certificates
The italic, available for all six weights, sets names and dates with a classical flourish.
