About Just Another Hand

Just Another Hand is a handwriting typeface with tall, tightly packed letters drawn as if with a brush. Strokes are even and clean with rounded ends, the letters stand almost upright and do not join, and the lowercase is small next to the long ascenders and capitals. That narrow build lets many characters fit on a line: in the specimen the whole capital alphabet takes about half the width. According to the official description, the design follows the handwriting its author had as a high school student, redrawn with a brush stroke to get a cleaner line. There is one Regular style, with no bold or italic, and the font is not a variable font. The 369 glyphs cover Latin and Latin Extended characters. Astigmatic publishes Just Another Hand under the Apache License 2.0 rather than the Open Font License.

Where Just Another Hand works

Handwritten notes on images
Unjoined brush letters read like a quick marker note on photos, stories and thumbnails.
Slim labels and tags
Tight letter widths squeeze a product name or a price onto a narrow tag or sticker.
Informal section headings
Tall capitals over a small lowercase give menu sections and blog titles a hand-lettered look without script loops.
Storyboard and margin lettering
The even stroke keeps annotations and speech balloons consistent from line to line.

Things to know

Apache license, not OFL
Just Another Hand uses the Apache License 2.0. Copies carry the license text and the copyright notice, and changed files must say that they were changed.
Small lowercase
The x-height is low compared with the capitals and ascenders, so the face needs a larger size than a text font to stay readable.
