About Caveat Brush

Caveat Brush is a handwriting typeface with thick strokes whose edges are slightly ragged, like marks from a dry brush or a broad marker. The letters stand apart, lean a little to the right and are narrow, with a compact lowercase and tall ascenders. It is the companion of Caveat, the handwriting family by Pablo Impallari that the official description says is meant for short annotations. That description also mentions OpenType features that vary the letter shapes slightly depending on where they fall in a word, so repeated letters look less identical. Caveat Brush is a single Regular style: no bold, no italic, no variable file. Its 642 glyphs cover Latin and Latin Extended, with the letters for languages such as Turkish, Polish, Czech and Romanian. The listing credits Impallari Type, the copyright notice names Google Inc., and the license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Caveat Brush works

Annotations on diagrams and screenshots
The family was designed for short notes, and the heavy brush stroke keeps a comment visible on top of a busy image.
Price tags and chalkboard-style menus
Rough stroke edges make prices and dish names look written by hand with a marker.
Quotes and captions for social posts
Narrow letters fit a sentence into a square image, and contextual variation keeps repeated letters from looking stamped.
Callouts on packaging
A word or two such as a flavour or an offer stands out in thick brush strokes beside printed text.
