About Dancing Script

Dancing Script is a casual script in which the joined lowercase does not sit on a rigid line: letters rise, dip and change size a little from one to the next. The capitals are large and several descend under the baseline, as the J, Y and Z do in the specimen, and thin connecting hairlines contrast with fuller downstrokes. The official notes say the design refers to script typefaces of the 1950s and recommend it for a friendly, informal, spontaneous tone. Pablo Impallari is the designer named in the font, and Google Fonts credits Impallari Type. A bold was added in May 2011, and in November 2019 the family became a variable font with a weight axis from 400 to 700, named Regular, Medium, SemiBold and Bold. The file has 612 glyphs with Latin, extended Latin and Vietnamese subsets and is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Dancing Script works

Party and shower invitations
The uneven baseline gives a headline the look of quick, cheerful handwriting.
Greeting cards
Large capitals open a short greeting, and Bold 700 keeps it visible over a photograph.
Signature-style wordmarks
Joined lowercase behind an oversized capital reads like a signed name.
Quotes for social posts
Four weights let the same phrase be set fine on a light background or heavy on a busy one.
Greetings in Vietnamese
The Vietnamese subset supplies the accented letters in the same hand.
