OpenCode
Open source AI coding agent for the terminal, desktop and IDE that works with models from many providers.
OpenCode is an open source AI coding agent that runs in a terminal, a desktop app or an IDE extension. OpenCode is used by installing it with a script or package manager, choosing a model, either a bundled free one or one from over 75 providers, and asking the agent to work on a project.
Best for Developers who want a coding agent they can inspect, run from the command line and pair with whichever model provider they prefer.

What is OpenCode?
OpenCode is an open source AI agent that helps developers write code from a terminal interface, a desktop app or an IDE extension. It is not tied to one model vendor. Some free models are bundled, and a user can instead connect Claude, GPT, Gemini or any of more than 75 providers listed through Models.dev, local models included. People who already pay for GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT Plus or Pro can sign in with those accounts and use them inside the agent. For each project OpenCode loads the appropriate language servers, so the model receives language-aware context. Several agents may run in parallel on one codebase, and any session can be shared as a link for reference or debugging. It installs by shell script, npm, bun or Homebrew. The maintainers state that code and context data are not stored. A companion service, Zen, offers a curated set of models benchmarked for coding agents.

Use Cases
- Coding from the Terminal
- Ask the agent to implement or change code without leaving the command line.
- Parallel Tasks
- Start separate agents on different parts of one repository.
- Using a Local Model
- Point the agent at a model running on your own hardware.
- Debugging with a Colleague
- Send a session link so someone else can see the full exchange.
- Privacy-Sensitive Projects
- Work in environments where source code must not be retained by the tool.
Things to know
- Model costs depend on the provider
- Free models are included, but usage of a connected third-party provider or subscription is governed by that provider.
- Zen is a separate offering
- The curated Zen model service is presented alongside the agent rather than as a requirement for using it.
- Enterprise option
- The site has an Enterprise section for organisations in addition to the open source project.
