Zalando Sans Expanded is a sans serif drawn at an extended width. In the specimen the round letters O, C, G and Q are clearly wider than they are tall, the lowercase stretches sideways in the same way, and the figures match that breadth; strokes stay even and the endings are flat. It shares its project and copyright notice with Zalando Sans, but where that family has a width axis, this one is fixed at the wide setting and varies in weight only. Two variable files, roman and italic, each run from 200 to 900, with eight named weights from ExtraLight to Black and 16 styles in total. The 603 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese. The catalogue credits Jakob Ekelund, KH Type and Zalando, while the name table lists Kurppa Hosk, KH Type and Jakob Ekelund. The license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Things to know

Weight is the only axis

The width is fixed. Zalando Sans, the related family, is the one with a variable width axis.

It takes a lot of horizontal space

In the specimen the family name had to be set smaller than usual to fit the line; expect fewer characters per line than with a normal-width sans.
