About Zalando Sans

Zalando Sans is a sans serif family in the plain grotesque manner. The specimen shows even strokes, a double-storey a, a single-storey g, flat stroke endings on c, e and s, and straight slanted quotation marks; nothing is ornamented. Its distinguishing feature is technical: two variable files, roman and italic, each carry a weight axis from 200 to 900 and a width axis from 75 to 125, so the family can be set narrower or wider than its default without switching fonts. Eight weights are named, ExtraLight to Black, each with an italic, 16 styles in total. The 606 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese. The catalogue credits Jakob Ekelund, KH Type and Zalando, while the font's own name table lists Kurppa Hosk, KH Type and Jakob Ekelund. It is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Zalando Sans works

Interfaces with tight space
Pulling the width axis towards 75 fits longer labels into buttons, tabs and table headers without shrinking the type.
Headlines that adapt to the layout
The width axis runs up to 125, so one heading can be widened on a desktop layout and narrowed on a phone.
Long reading
Regular 400 with its italic handles paragraphs and emphasis; Medium and SemiBold give subheads without a second family.
Brand systems
Eight weights from ExtraLight to Black, all with italics, cover everything from fine print to campaign headlines.
Vietnamese-language products
The Vietnamese subset is present in both the roman and the italic file.
