About Science Gothic

Science Gothic is a sans serif family whose curves are flattened into rounded rectangles: O, C, D and the zero have straight sides and tight corners, and at the default width the letters stand broad and low. Its reach comes from four variable axes in one file. Weight runs from Thin 100 to Black 900 in nine named steps. Width runs from 50 to 200, from half the normal width to double. Slant leans the letters by up to 10 degrees, which is how the italic styles are produced, and brings the count to 18 styles. A contrast axis, from 0 to 85, thins the horizontal strokes relative to the verticals. The font carries 1,302 glyphs with Latin, Latin Extended, Vietnamese and Cyrillic character sets. Thomas Phinney, Vassil Kateliev and Brandon Buerkle are the designers, and Font Detective LLC holds the copyright.

Where Science Gothic works

Headlines fitted to any measure
A width axis from 50 to 200 lets a title be squeezed into a narrow column or stretched across a banner.
Technology and science branding
Squared bowls and flat-sided curves give names and labels an engineered, instrument-panel look.
Responsive and animated type
Four axes in one variable file can be driven from CSS to change weight, width, slant and contrast on the fly.
Sports and motorsport graphics
Wide Black letters with slant applied read as fast, heavy numbers and names.
Russian, Ukrainian and Bulgarian titles
The Cyrillic character set follows the same squared construction as the Latin.
