About Mouse Memoirs

Mouse Memoirs is a display typeface that recalls the title lettering of mid-century cartoon comics. The official notes trace it to vintage cartoon comic books published in the 1950s and 60s. In the specimen the letters are tall, narrow and dark, yet nothing is ruled straight: stems flare a little towards one end, curves are slightly lopsided and neighbouring letters differ in height by a hair, as in lettering done with a brush. The lowercase is large in relation to the capitals, so mixed-case words keep the compact, column-like look of the capitals. The family consists of a single Regular file with 377 glyphs for Latin and Latin Extended. It was made by Astigmatic, and the copyright notice names Brian J. Bonislawsky DBA Astigmatic. The license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1, with Mouse Memoirs as a Reserved Font Name.

Where Mouse Memoirs works

Children's book covers
Wobbly, friendly letters suit titles for young readers, one of the uses the designer names.
Comic strips and cartoon titles
The style comes from comic-book lettering, so it fits panel captions, logos and episode cards.
Party invitations and school posters
Narrow letters fit a long event name on one line while the uneven edges keep the tone light.
Toy and snack packaging
Tall dark capitals read from a shelf, and the hand-cut outline signals fun instead of formality.
