About Figtree

Figtree is a geometric sans serif made for web and mobile applications. The specimen shows near-circular bowls, a single-storey g, a t with a curved foot, an even stroke and a tall lowercase; in the heavier weights the counters stay round and open. The official notes describe the text weights as crisp and the capitals as strong enough for buttons and short labels, while the thicker weights take on a friendlier character for headlines. Figtree is a variable font with a weight axis from 300 to 900 and seven named weights, Light to Black. Italics were added in November 2022, bringing the family to 14 styles in two files. Each font holds 458 glyphs covering Latin and Latin Extended. Erik Kennedy is the designer; the family joined Google Fonts in 2022 under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Figtree works

Buttons and short labels
Capitals keep their punch in uppercase settings, a use the design notes mention directly.
Mobile app text
An even stroke and tall lowercase keep small interface copy clear on phone screens.
Marketing headlines
ExtraBold and Black become rounder and friendlier, which suits approachable brands.
Onboarding and help text
Light, Regular and Medium with italics cover paragraphs, hints and emphasis.
Design systems
Seven weights from one variable file keep a component library to a single family.

Fonts that pair with Figtree

Cormorant Garamond Serif

Figtree is sans serif and Cormorant Garamond is serif (5 weights): the difference in structure separates headings from text.

Slabo 13px Slab Serif

Figtree is sans serif and Slabo 13px is slab serif (1 weight): the difference in structure separates headings from text.

JetBrains Mono Monospace

JetBrains Mono is a monospace family (8 weights) for code and figures next to Figtree as the text face.

Suggestions come from simple rules on the records: a contrasting classification and enough weights to carry body text. They are a starting point, not a verdict.
