About Plus Jakarta Sans

Plus Jakarta Sans is a geometric sans serif with nearly even stroke thickness, round bowls and pointed joins where curves meet stems. The lowercase is slightly tall, leaving a clear step between x-height and capitals, and counters are kept open so the letters stay legible across sizes. Gumpita Rahayu of Tokotype designed the family, which 6616 Studio commissioned in 2020 for the Jakarta Provincial Government's +Jakarta City of Collaboration programme; as part of that programme the fonts were opened to the public. The family is a variable font with a weight axis from 200 to 800: seven named weights from ExtraLight to ExtraBold, each with an italic, 14 styles in all. Its 1,187 glyphs include alternate characters arranged in three stylistic sets named Lancip (Sharp), Lurus (Straight) and Lingkar (Swirl). The license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
