About Chonburi

Chonburi is a display typeface that joins a Thai alphabet in the formal looped style to a Latin serif. The Latin letters are broad and dark: thick vertical stems meet hairline-thin horizontals and serifs, round letters such as O and C are nearly circular, and the lowercase is large and closely spaced. Teardrop terminals on a, c and r and a curled tail on Q add to the ornate tone. The family consists of one Regular font, heavy in appearance despite its name, and is not a variable font. Its 757 glyphs cover Thai, Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese. The Thai foundry Cadson Demak leads the project and is the credited designer; the name table gives no individual name. Chonburi is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, and the official description presents it as a face for display use.

Where Chonburi works

Thai and English headlines
The looped Thai and the Latin serif share one heavy weight, so a bilingual headline holds together.
Magazine covers
Hairline serifs against thick stems give a masthead or cover line strong contrast at large sizes.
Exhibition and event posters
Broad, dark capitals carry a title across a poster without extra weight or outline.
Wordmarks for shops and restaurants
A short name in Chonburi gains an ornate, formal character from the teardrop terminals.

Prompt Sans Serif

Chonburi supplies a heavy serif headline in Thai and Latin; Prompt, a sans serif for the same scripts from Thin 100 to Black 900 with italics, sets the text.

Suggestions come from simple rules on the records: a contrasting classification and enough weights to carry body text. They are a starting point, not a verdict.
