About Rokkitt

Rokkitt is a slab serif family with geometric construction: in the specimen the o is close to a circle, serifs are flat rectangular slabs, and strokes keep nearly the same thickness throughout. The official notes say Vernon Adams took his cue from geometric slab serifs, sometimes called Egyptians, that were in fashion from the late nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth, and that Rokkitt is meant as a display font for headings and headlines, though it can serve at text sizes too. Adams worked on it from 2011 to 2014; Kalapi Gajjar completed the family in 2016 with nine weights, it became a variable font in 2019, and italics arrived in 2023. The weight axis runs from 100 to 900, giving 18 styles with the italics. Its 728 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese sets. Rokkitt is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Rokkitt works

Newspaper-style headlines
Flat slabs and round bowls give a headline the look of early twentieth-century Egyptian type.
Posters with a period feel
ExtraBold and Black turn the slabs into heavy blocks for a poster title.
Section headings on the web
The official notes name headings and headlines as the intended use, and the variable file supplies every weight.
Slab option for short text
Per the same notes it can stand in for a sans serif at text sizes, for example in intros and captions.
