About Reem Kufi

Reem Kufi is a Kufic typeface for the Arabic script with a geometric sans serif Latin alongside it. According to the official description, the Arabic starts from early Kufic manuscript models, adapts them to the grid of Fatimid Kufic and owes much to the Kufic designs of the calligrapher Mohammed Abdul Qadir. Khaled Hosny drew the Arabic and joined it to a Latin component by Santiago Orozco. In the specimen the Latin has a sharp-topped A, round O and Q, a single-storey a and tall ascenders over a modest x-height. The family is one variable file with a weight axis from 400 to 700 and four named weights, without an italic. It holds 815 glyphs across Arabic, Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese character sets. The description recommends it for display settings such as titles and decoration.

Where Reem Kufi works

Arabic titles and headings
The Kufic Arabic is described by its makers as a display design, which places it in book titles, section headings and banners.
Bilingual Arabic and Latin identities
Both scripts sit in one file and share the 400 to 700 weight axis, so an Arabic name and its Latin transliteration match in weight.
Decorative panels and covers
The old Kufic manner gives a historical tone to covers, certificates and ornamental lines of text.
Latin headlines with a geometric cut
The pointed A, round O and single-storey a set short Latin headlines in SemiBold or Bold.
