About League Spartan

League Spartan is a geometric sans serif typeface built from circles and straight lines. The o is close to a full circle, the lowercase a and g are single-storey, and the capitals A, V and W end in sharp points; in the heavy weights the round letters pack into dense, sturdy words. The League of Moveable Type based the design on Spartan, a typeface by Matt Bailey that goes back to American geometric sans serifs of the early twentieth century. Matt Bailey and Tyler Finck are credited as designers. The family is a single variable font with a weight axis from 100 to 900, which yields nine weights from Thin to Black. No italic is included. The font holds 633 glyphs covering Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese, and it was added to Google Fonts in 2021.

Where League Spartan works

Logos and wordmarks
Round bowls and a single-storey a turn a short name into a set of simple geometric shapes.
Bold headlines
ExtraBold and Black give compact, heavy titles for posters, covers and hero sections.
Social media graphics
A few words in a heavy weight stay readable in a small square image.
Presentation titles
Thin to Black in one file lets a deck move from a light subtitle to a heavy title.
Section headings on websites
Medium and SemiBold mark headings above a separate text face.
