About Qwitcher Grypen

Qwitcher Grypen is a script typeface with the dry, quick stroke of a ruling pen, the drafting tool the official description names as its inspiration. Lines switch abruptly between hairline and thick, and many end in a sharp flick. The lowercase is very small and steeply slanted, and its letters link into a running line, while the capitals are several times larger and throw long horizontal strokes across their neighbours; in the specimen the Q underlines the letters that follow it. Set entirely in capitals, the letters collide, so the design is meant for mixed case. The family has two weights, Regular and Bold; Bold thickens the strokes without changing the rhythm. It is not a variable font. Each font holds 619 glyphs for Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese. Robert Leuschke is the designer, and the license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Qwitcher Grypen works

Signature-style logos
A name with one sweeping capital and a small joined lowercase looks like a fast autograph.
Invitations and place cards
Guest names gain long entry strokes from the capitals, while details go in a plain text face.
One-word overlays on photos
A single word at a very large size shows the contrast between hairlines and thick ruling-pen strokes.
Labels and tags
Bold 700 keeps the thin strokes visible when a script word is printed small on packaging.

Things to know

Capitals overlap
In the specimen a line of capitals tangles together; the capitals are drawn to start a word, not to be set in a row.

The family has two fonts and no further styles.
