About Petit Formal Script

Petit Formal Script is a slanted, connected formal script, drawn for screen use. The official notes list what usually goes wrong with such scripts on the web — hairlines that break up, a lowercase dwarfed by long ascenders and descenders, cramped widths — and present this design as the answer, meant to stay legible down to about 13px. The specimen bears that out: the thin strokes are fine but not fragile, the lowercase is large against the capitals, and the letters are generously wide with smooth joins. Capitals carry modest entry loops and swashes. The font is one Regular 400 file and is not a variable font. Its 431 glyphs cover Latin and Latin Extended. It is credited to Impallari Type; the name table lists Pablo Impallari, Brenda Gallo and Rodrigo Fuenzalida. The license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Petit Formal Script works

Wedding websites and online invitations
The script was made for screens, so names and dates stay intact where a print-oriented formal script would lose its hairlines.
Subheadings at modest sizes
A large lowercase and sturdy thin strokes let short lines work well below the usual size for a formal script.
Names on cards and certificates
Looped capitals followed by joined lowercase give a name the look of careful penmanship.
Boutique wordmarks
A one- or two-word brand name in the connected lowercase reads as a signature.
