About New Rocker

New Rocker is a blackletter display face that trades the fine pen detail of traditional gothic scripts for blunt weight and sharp points. In the specimen the stems are thick and nearly vertical, the counters are small angular openings, and many strokes end in spikes or hooked spurs; capitals such as N, K, L and Q throw long curved swashes under the baseline. The lowercase is more regular and stays readable in short words. The official notes name blackletter, tattoo work and heavy metal logos as the sources. The font is one Regular 400 file with no other weights and no variable axis. Its 429 glyphs cover Latin and Latin Extended, including Turkish, Polish, Czech and Romanian letters. It is credited to Impallari Type; the name table lists Pablo Impallari, Brenda Gallo and Rodrigo Fuenzalida. The license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where New Rocker works

Band logos and gig posters
Heavy metal logos are one of the stated sources, and the spiked terminals deliver that look in a band name or tour date.
Tattoo studio and barber signage
Tattoo lettering is the other source; the swash capitals work as initials on a sign or window.
Merchandise and album titles
A short title in mixed case keeps the swashes on the capitals and the plainer lowercase readable on a shirt or sleeve.
Game and video title cards
Thick stems and angular counters stay solid over busy artwork where a thin gothic script would break up.
