About Hurricane

Hurricane is a script typeface that looks written at speed with a brush. In the specimen the letters lean far to the right, the lowercase is small and tightly joined, and the strokes vary from firm downstrokes to thin connecting lines. Capitals are tall and narrow, with a crossbar on H and A that extends well to the left, and descenders on f, g and y end in open loops. The official notes call it a fast-moving, spirited brush script and mention a Script stylistic set that replaces the capitals with more flourished ones. The font holds 1,409 glyphs, a large number for a single style, across Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese. There is one Regular weight and it is not a variable font. Robert Leuschke designed Hurricane, and it is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Hurricane works

Signature-style logos
Tall capitals and a compact joined lowercase make a name look signed in one quick movement.
Sports and energy-drink graphics
The steep rightward lean gives a headline the sense of motion its name points to.
Social media overlays
A two- or three-word phrase over a photograph keeps its brush texture at large size.
Apparel prints
Extended crossbars and looped descenders fill the width of a chest print with a single word.

Things to know

Alternate capitals
According to the official notes, a Script stylistic set swaps in more flourished capitals; it has to be switched on as an OpenType feature.
One weight
Hurricane is Regular 400 only.
Small lowercase
The lowercase is short relative to the capitals in the specimen, so the script needs display sizes.
