About Goblin One

Goblin One is a display face in the "Latin" genre, a name given to designs whose serifs are pointed triangles. Its letters are broad and heavy, with medium contrast between thick and thin and a large x-height, so even the lowercase forms a solid, wide band. Round letters such as O, C and G are stretched ovals, and the numerals are just as extended. The official description says the starting point was a sign painted by hand above a pub in Reading, in the United Kingdom, and that the font was made specifically as web type for medium to large sizes. The family consists of a single style, labelled Regular 400 though it looks bold, and it is not variable. Its 250 glyphs belong to the basic Latin subset. Riccardo De Franceschi is the designer.

Where Goblin One works

Pub, brewery and restaurant signs
The design descends from a painted pub sign, and its wide heavy capitals carry a venue name across a fascia.
Short web headlines
It was produced as web type for medium to large sizes; a few words fill the width of a column.
Posters and tickets
Triangular serifs and extended proportions give event titles the look of old painted signage.
Badges and labels
A one-word name in wide letters fits circular or ribbon-shaped marks on bottles and merchandise.
