About Dosis

Dosis is a rounded sans serif family with narrow proportions. Every stroke in the specimen ends in a round cap, the capitals are tall and slim, and the zero carries a dot in its centre. According to the official notes the design started as an Extra Light style meant for sizes of 36 point and above, drawn by Edgar Tolentino and Pablo Impallari; it was expanded into a full set of weights in September 2011 and remastered as a variable font in 2019. Today one variable file covers a weight axis from 200 to 800 with seven named weights, ExtraLight through ExtraBold. There is no italic. The font holds 553 glyphs for Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese; its name table lists Edgar Tolentino, Pablo Impallari and Igino Marini. It is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Dosis works

Headings in tight columns
Narrow letters fit more characters per line, and SemiBold to ExtraBold keep them dark enough for titles.
Large thin titles
ExtraLight 200 continues the original cut, which was intended for 36 point and larger.
Friendly interface labels
Rounded stroke ends soften buttons, tabs and badges without widening them.
Infographics and charts
Slim figures and capitals save space in axis labels and callouts.
Packaging and stickers
Round terminals at ExtraBold 800 give short product names a soft, compact look.

Fonts that pair with Dosis

Bodoni Moda Serif

Suggestions come from simple rules on the records: a contrasting classification and enough weights to carry body text. They are a starting point, not a verdict.

Things to know

Upright only
Dosis has no italic; slanted text is synthesised by the software.
Dotted zero
The specimen shows a dot inside the zero, which sets it apart from the capital O but may be unwanted in prices.
Lightest weights need size
The Extra Light style was first made for 36 point and up, so it turns faint in small text.
