About Courgette

Courgette is an italic script typeface with the look of a round brush. Its letters lean steeply forward and are heavy and soft-cornered; the lowercase is mostly unjoined, with short exit strokes that bring neighbouring letters close without a continuous connecting line. Capitals such as A, K and R begin with small hooks in place of large flourishes. By the official account, scripts of this kind are usually kept for large sizes, whereas Courgette was made for the web with contrast low enough to stay clear when small. Karolina Lach is the designer and the copyright belongs to Sorkin Type Co, which reserves the font name Courgette. There is one style, Regular 400, in a static file of 407 glyphs with Latin and extended Latin subsets. Courgette was added to Google Fonts in 2012 and is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Courgette works

Subheadings and pull quotes
Low stroke contrast keeps the letters solid at sizes where thinner scripts break up.
Menu and section titles
The heavy, slanted brush line gives a title warmth while each letter stays separate and legible.
Wordmarks
Hooked capitals without long flourishes fit a name into a compact space.
Buttons and badges
Unjoined lowercase stays readable in a short label set at interface sizes.

FAQs

Is Courgette free for commercial use?

Courgette was designed by Karolina Lach. The copyright notice names Sorkin Type Co.

How many weights does Courgette have?

Courgette has one weight, Regular 400.

Can Courgette be used for body text?
