About Chewy

Chewy is a display typeface made of thick, soft-edged letters that resemble brush or marker lettering. In the specimen every stroke ends in a round blob, the letters lean and bounce a little, counters are small, and capitals and lowercase are both narrow enough to stack a short phrase into a tight block. The family has a single Regular style and is not a variable font. Its 229 glyphs cover the basic Latin character set, with the accented letters needed for languages such as French, German, Spanish and Swedish. The designer credit is Sideshow; the font's name table gives Squid as designer and Font Diner, Inc, doing business as Sideshow, as manufacturer, with a 2010 copyright notice. The official description is a string of food jokes and gives no design history. Chewy is published under the Apache License 2.0, not the SIL Open Font License.

Where Chewy works

Party invitations and toy labels
Blob-ended strokes and bouncing letters set a light-hearted tone for children's events and products.
Candy and snack packaging
Fat letters with small counters fill a wrapper with a product name that reads at a glance.
Comic titles and stickers
The brush-like outlines hold up when filled with colour, outlined or tilted.
Thumbnails and social graphics
A two- or three-word caption in Chewy stays legible over a busy image because the strokes are so thick.
