About Baloo 2

Baloo 2 is a display family with soft, rounded stroke ends and a slightly bouncy rhythm, an extension of the earlier Baloo project by Ek Type. In the specimen the letters are monoline and open, with a single-bowl g and a short curved f, and the heavier weights fill out into chunky, compact shapes. The family is a variable font with a weight axis from 400 to 800 and five named weights: Regular, Medium, SemiBold, Bold and ExtraBold. There are no italics. This family covers Devanagari, Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese in 1,585 glyphs; sister families in the Baloo 2 project pair the same Latin with other Indic scripts and with Arabic. Devanagari and Latin were designed collaboratively at Ek Type, with font engineering by Girish Dalvi. The license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Baloo 2 works

Headlines in Devanagari and Latin
Both scripts are drawn in the same rounded style, so a bilingual title keeps one voice.
Children's books and learning apps
Rounded ends and open letters, visible in the specimen, give short sentences a soft, approachable look.
Food and toy packaging
ExtraBold 800 is heavy enough to carry a product name on a small label.
Social media graphics
Five weights let a post stack a heavy headline over a lighter line of detail in the same family.
Onboarding screens and stickers
Regular and Medium work for a few lines of friendly copy beside an illustration.
