Cantarell is a humanist sans serif family that Dave Crossland designed in 2009 during his MA in Typeface Design at the University of Reading, for reading on screens. Cantarell has four styles: Regular and Bold, each with an italic. It is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 and suits interface text, web pages and short documents.

Cantarell is a contemporary humanist sans serif developed for reading on screen; its designer, Dave Crossland, had a particular target in mind, web pages viewed on an HTC Dream phone. He drew it in 2009 while studying typeface design at the University of Reading, using only open-source software, chiefly FontForge. In the specimen the letters are wide and loosely spaced, with open shapes in a, c, e and s and strokes that vary little in thickness. The family has two weights, Regular 400 and Bold 700, each with an italic, and is not a variable font. Metadata fixes in October 2022 renamed the former Oblique style to Italic. Each font has 391 glyphs covering Latin and Latin Extended. The license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1, and the project notes invite users to extend the fonts with glyphs their own writing systems need.
Latin and Latin Extended characters in the preview subset; the complete family has 391 glyphs.
The family contains the core letters these languages are written with:
Character sets found in the files: latin, latin-ext. The language list is a check of required letters against the font, not a promise of typographic quality in each language.

Google Sans Code is a monospace family (6 weights) for code and figures next to Cantarell as the text face.
Suggestions come from simple rules on the records: a contrasting classification and enough weights to carry body text. They are a starting point, not a verdict.
Download the family and host the files on your own site, then declare them in CSS. Please do not link to the files on trendhub.net: preview files here are subsets and their addresses change.
