About Caladea

Caladea is a serif family for text, built from the earlier typeface Cambo by the same designers. The official notes list what changed: a more condensed width, new metrics, a set of four styles and a larger character set. In the specimen the letters are sturdy and slightly narrow, stroke contrast is low, serifs are short and firmly bracketed, and the lowercase is large against the capitals, which keeps a paragraph dark and even. Numerals are lining figures, and the ampersand takes an Et-like form. The four styles are Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic, supplied as static files; Caladea is not a variable font. Each font holds 463 glyphs covering Latin and Latin Extended. Carolina Giovagnoli and Andrés Torresi designed the family for HT Fonts, and the license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Caladea works

Office documents and reports
Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic are the four styles a word processor expects, so headings and emphasis work with its standard buttons.
Long-form reading
Low contrast and a large lowercase give paragraphs an even colour at text sizes.
Dense pages
The narrower width, one of the stated changes from Cambo, fits more characters on a line.
Documents in Central European languages
Latin Extended coverage supplies the letters for Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian and Turkish.
