About Teko

Teko is a display sans serif that covers the Devanagari and Latin scripts. Its letters are tall and narrow with squared curves, flat sides and very little difference between thick and thin strokes; the specimen shows a single-storey a and straight-sided o. Manushi Parikh designed the typeface for Indian Type Foundry, which published it in 2014, and the name table also credits Jonny Pinhorn. The variable version was produced by Marc Foley in 2023. Teko has five weights, Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold and Bold, on a weight axis from 300 to 700, without italics. The official notes recommend the middle weights for long headlines and Bold for one or two words. The file holds 991 glyphs, including the conjuncts and ligatures that Devanagari text requires, and is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Teko works

News headlines and tickers
Narrow letters fit many characters into a strip, and the official notes name television news tickers as an intended use.
Hindi and English titles together
Devanagari and Latin were drawn as one design, so a bilingual headline keeps the same square structure in both scripts.
Sports graphics and scoreboards
Tall figures with flat sides stack into compact scores and tables at large sizes.
Advertising headlines
Regular, Medium and SemiBold are the weights recommended for long headlines; Bold is kept for a word or two.
Large web hero text
The Light 300 cut stays thin and even at big sizes, and the variable file serves every weight from one download.
