About Antic Slab

Antic Slab is a slab serif with thin, even strokes and short, flat serifs of about the same thickness as the stems. The lowercase is large in relation to the capitals, a trait the official description attributes to every family in the Antic Type System, and the letters are slightly narrow and openly spaced in the specimen. The same source mentions a slight stress taken from handwriting. Antic Slab was drawn for headlines in newspapers and magazines and is the slab member of a system that also has sans and Didone versions. It has a single style, Regular 400, with no bold, italic or variable axis. The font is small: 217 glyphs in the Latin subset, complete for English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and the Nordic languages. Santiago Orozco is the designer, and the license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Antic Slab works

Newspaper and magazine headlines
This is the purpose Antic Slab was designed for; its narrow letters fit a long headline into a column.
Light subheads and standfirsts
Thin strokes with discreet slabs give a quieter second level under a heavy title.
Blog titles on screen
The large lowercase keeps a light slab face readable when a title is set at moderate sizes.
Quotes and callouts
A single Regular style with flat serifs sets a short quotation apart from sans serif body text.
