About Aladin

Aladin is a display typeface drawn with a broad-pen logic but set upright and tightly packed. Stems are thick and slightly waisted, joins are thin, and strokes end in soft hooks and teardrops; the capital A has a curled foot on its left leg, and E is drawn as a rounded, looped form. Lowercase letters are narrow with a tall x-height, so a word occupies little width for its weight. The official notes call it a vintage calligraphic design with a Middle Eastern accent, credit Angel Koziupa as designer and Alejandro Paul as producer, and suggest it for packaging of coffees and teas as well as posters and book jackets. Aladin is published by Sudtipos as a single Regular style with 235 glyphs in the basic Latin subset. It is not a variable font.

Where Aladin works

Coffee and tea packaging
The makers name this use themselves: narrow, heavy calligraphic letters fit a product name on a small label.
Book jackets
A title in Aladin carries a storybook, old-world tone on its own, leaving the cover art free.
Restaurant and cafe signs
Compact letters with curled terminals stay legible on a shop front or a menu header.
Poster headlines
The tall x-height and tight fit let a headline of several words stay on one line.
