Meet the Yamaha RW350, the Adventure Scooter Nobody Predicted
Yamaha's RW350 is a tall, automatic scooter built for commuting with a gravel road now and then. Here is what it is, what it is not, and why waiting for official prices makes sense.

You know the morning ride: traffic lights, a pothole-ridden side street, and then a gravel shortcut you usually avoid. That is the life Yamaha has in mind for the RW350, a new adventure scooter for model year 2027.
The RW350 is the smaller sibling of the RW700 models, built to combine commuting practicality with riding on unpaved roads.
It is also the first adventure scooter family Yamaha has made, and the public will first see it at Motorcycle Live 2026 in Birmingham. Our take on the headline: this is a promising town bike with light-trail manners, and the missing price means waiting is the smart move.

Not the two-stroke you were hoping for
In August 2024, Yamaha filed European trademarks for RW125, RW155, RW250, RW350 and RW700. RW350 was the only name that matched no current Yamaha model, and that set imaginations running. One commentator expected four-strokes and floated a modern take on the RD350 or RZ350 two-stroke. Another pointed out that Yamaha's 321cc R3 and MT-03 engine could be the starting point.
Neither guess landed. The RW350 is an automatic CVT scooter with a new engine, frame and design, not a gearbox bike and not a reworked XMax. The RD it was compared with dates to 1975, and that is a long way from this scooter.
Why a scooter, and why now?
Honda did the proving. MCN's editor calls Yamaha's move interesting precisely because sales of Honda's rivals show the segment works. Motoqar adds that the Honda X-ADV currently dominates adventure scooters in Europe.
Yamaha is not entering with one bike, and the RW family will probably keep growing. The RW700, RW700 Explore and RW350 arrive together, and the earlier trademark list hints at smaller sizes. Speculation already points to a 250cc RW250, and one Philippine writer would like a smaller version still. For you, that means more choice down the line and no reason to rush.
By the numbers
- 327cc: engine size on Yamaha Motor Europe's listing as reported by Motorival, though some reports say 330cc
- 29.2 PS: power on that listing at 7,000 rpm, with 31.5 Nm of torque
- 34.4hp: the outlier power figure from one report, against 28.8hp elsewhere
- 192kg: fully fueled weight in most reports, with one saying about 185kg
- 810mm: seat height in most reports, 795mm in one
- 105mm: rear suspension travel, with 140mm at the front
Official figures are still awaited and the reports differ, so our advice is to treat all of these numbers as preliminary.
What's different under the seat and frame
Under the bodywork sits an all-new liquid-cooled single with one overhead cam, four valves and Yamaha's electronic throttle, paired with a fully automatic CVT. A four-axis balancer is there to tame vibration.
The clever part is Yamaha Dynamic Ride: the engine is fixed rigidly to the frame, and only the CVT moves with the rear wheel. Yamaha says that cuts unsprung weight, stiffens the chassis and frees up rear suspension design.
The tech list is generous: cruise control, keyless ignition, a five-inch TFT with Garmin StreetCross navigation and a USB-C port. Street, Explore and Eco modes tune the ride, and Explore allows some rear-wheel slide on loose surfaces. Generous ground clearance and a skid plate add light-trail credibility, while the underseat space takes a full-face helmet.
Where it falls short of the Honda
The Honda ADV350 is the obvious rival, and it beats the Yamaha where an adventure scooter needs it most: rear travel. The Honda has 130mm at the back, while the Yamaha RW350 has 105mm. That short travel and the 14in rear wheel limit how far off the pavement it makes sense to go. For a rider who wants gravel to be more than a shortcut, that is the bike's main trade-off.
Storage is the second gripe: the underseat space holds one full-face helmet but is smaller than the XMAX's, according to Motorival. Looks divide opinion too. One writer sees an odd rally-style mix of XSR900 rear and square Honda-like front, while another finds the proportions less awkward than the RW700's.
What about the rest of the field? The QJMotor Fort 350 and the Zontes 368G are the two that put pressure on the Yamaha, because both offer more power than the Honda's 29.2 PS. The XMAX 300 is the road-first alternative from Yamaha's own showroom. The Honda ADV 350 is the scooter Yamaha is expected to take on with the RW350, and it sits close to the RW350's weight class at 186 kg.
What will it cost, and should you buy one?
Yamaha has not announced prices, and the bike is due in spring 2027. With no sales yet, there are no used values. Our read of the Malaysian market: the Honda ADV350 costs RM33,999 while the QJMotor Fort 350 undercuts it, and Yamaha will land near the Honda end.
The RW350 suits urban commuters who want a scooter that is easy to handle in traffic, with the odd gravel road thrown in. Serious trail riders would want longer travel and bigger wheels than it offers, and collectors are unlikely to find much here. Before buying, check the confirmed power, weight and price, try the seat height and reach, and compare with the Honda and cheaper Chinese-built 350s. License category and insurance depend on your country and the bike's power, so check those first.
Will Yamaha keep it going?
The RW350 will probably stay, because it is part of a deliberately multi-model family. Its fate depends on how it sells against Honda and how the RW700 is received.
The rigid-engine chassis, Yamaha's tech and the light-trail look on a proven scooter template are the real appeal. Short rear travel is the weak spot, and price will decide the rest. Watch four things: the confirmed price, early independent road tests, first-year sales against the ADV350, and any smaller RW variants. Until official figures and road tests arrive, the sensible move is to wait and ride one first.
