About Viaoda Libre

Viaoda Libre is a display typeface with strong contrast between thick vertical strokes and hairline connections. The capitals are wide, the Q ends in a looping tail, and in the lowercase the ascenders of b, d, h and l finish in a small curl instead of a flat serif, while a, c, f and r carry ball terminals. The official notes say the design takes its cue from Vietnamese cultural symbolism and combines a traditional feel with modern elements, and they recommend it for large titles and subtitles. The family has one Regular style and is not a variable font. Its 888 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended, Vietnamese and Cyrillic. The authors add that work on the family continues, with improvements to the Vietnamese planned. It is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Viaoda Libre works

Large magazine titles
Hairlines and thick stems are drawn for big sizes, the use the official notes name first.
Titles in Vietnamese
The design starts from Vietnamese cultural symbolism and includes the Vietnamese character set.
Fashion and beauty branding
Wide capitals with a looping Q and curled ascenders give a short name a refined, decorative outline.
Invitations and menus
Subtitles and names set large show the ball terminals and fine connections clearly.
Headlines in Cyrillic
Cyrillic letters are part of the 888 glyphs, so a Russian or Ukrainian title can use the same face.
