About Paytone One

Paytone One is a display sans serif whose single style is far heavier than its Regular 400 label suggests. The bowls of a, b, d, o and p are close to circles, the a is single-storey, and the y ends in a curved tail. Stroke ends on letters such as t, l and k are cut at a slant instead of square, which gives the wide, dark letters an informal tone. Vernon Adams intended the face for titles and headlines on websites. According to the official notes, a February 2023 update to version 1.002 revised the outlines, added Vietnamese diacritics and improved spacing and kerning. The font now holds 669 glyphs across the latin, latin-ext and vietnamese subsets. It is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 and has no italic or companion weights.

Where Paytone One works

Website hero titles
The face was drawn for headlines on the web, and its thick strokes hold up over photographs and coloured backgrounds.
Sale banners and promotions
Round bowls and slanted stroke ends keep a loud price or offer line informal instead of stern.
Social media graphics
Wide, dark letters stay readable when a short phrase is scaled down to a phone-sized image.
Titles in Central European languages and Vietnamese
The 669 glyphs include the letters for Turkish, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian and Vietnamese, so translated headlines keep the same face.
