About Forum

Forum is a serif typeface whose proportions follow classical Roman capitals. In the specimen the O and Q are wide and nearly circular while E, F and S are narrow, the strokes are light with gentle contrast, and the serifs are small flares rather than heavy slabs. The capital Q and R end in long sweeping tails, and the lowercase is modest in height with a compact e and a. The official notes say it can set body text and also works in titles and headlines. The family has a single Regular style; no bold, italic or variable axis exists. Its 580 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended, Cyrillic and Cyrillic Extended, which the notes describe as serving Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltics and Cyrillic-writing communities. Denis Masharov is the designer, and Forum was added to Google Fonts in 2011.

Where Forum works

Titles in capitals
The Roman proportions show most clearly in all-capital lines, where wide O and narrow E alternate.
Restaurant and hotel identities
Light strokes and the long tails of Q and R give a name a classical tone.
Russian and Ukrainian headings
Cyrillic is part of the font, so headings in those languages match the Latin.
Invitations and programmes
Fine serifs and light colour suit short formal texts at comfortable sizes.
Short passages and epigraphs
The notes allow for body text; with one weight, it fits brief passages that need no bold.

Fonts that pair with Forum

Actor Sans Serif

Suggestions come from simple rules on the records: a contrasting classification and enough weights to carry body text. They are a starting point, not a verdict.

Download the family and host the files on your own site, then declare them in CSS. Please do not link to the files on trendhub.net: preview files here are subsets and their addresses change.

Things to know

Single Regular style
Forum has no bold or italic, so emphasis must come from size, capitals or spacing.
Light strokes
The thin lines in the specimen need adequate size and contrast with the background.
Listed as Display at the source
The official source files Forum under Display; its letterforms are those of a serif.
