About Faustina

Faustina is a serif family made for editorial typography: books, newspapers and magazines, both printed and on screen. The specimen shows moderate stroke contrast, short and sturdy serifs with an angled cut on the heads of letters such as n and u, a fairly tall lowercase and slightly narrow proportions that set text economically. Alfonso Garcia designed it as part of the Omnibus-Type Press Series. In September 2019 the family was converted into a variable font; it now has a weight axis from 300 to 800 with six named weights, Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold, Bold and ExtraBold, each with an italic, for 12 styles in two files. The fonts hold 800 glyphs covering Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese and are published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Faustina works

Newspaper and magazine articles
The family was drawn for press work, and its slightly narrow letters fit more words in a column.
Books and long reads
Regular and Medium with their italics cover running text, emphasis and titles of works.
Headlines and decks
Bold and ExtraBold match the text letterforms, so headline and body share one design.
Captions and footnotes
Light 300 offers a quieter setting for secondary text at sizes where it remains clear.
Online publications
The official notes name online use next to print, and two variable files keep the font payload low.
