About Days One

Days One is a display sans serif built from wide letters and thick strokes of nearly even weight. Curves are squared off into rounded rectangles: the O, the D and the zero look like soft-cornered boxes, and the capital A has a flat top with a slanted left leg. Lowercase letters are large beside the capitals, so a mixed-case headline sets as a dense, dark band. The family has one Regular style and is not a variable font. Its 353 glyphs cover basic Latin and Cyrillic. The official description calls Days One an experiment started in 2008 by three people and links its suitability for headlines to the broad shapes and heavy strokes. Credits differ between sources: the listing names Jovanny Lemonad, while the name table lists Alexander Kalachev, Alexey Maslov and Jovanny Lemonad. The license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Days One works

Headlines in Latin and Cyrillic
The same heavy forms exist for both scripts, so an English and a Russian headline can share one look.
Tech and gaming titles
Squared curves and the flat-topped A give product names and stream overlays an engineered, machined feel.
Short wordmarks
Wide letters fill a horizontal lockup with only a few characters.
Banner and poster text
Thick strokes stay solid when reversed out of a colour or placed over a photograph at large sizes.

Things to know

One weight only
Days One ships as one Regular file. There is no lighter cut, bold or italic; the official notes point to Numans as a related design of more ordinary weight.
Latin and Cyrillic subsets
The listed subsets are Latin and Cyrillic. No Latin Extended subset is listed, and the Turkish ğ is absent from the character map.
Wide setting
In the specimen the 26 capitals span almost the full line width, so headlines take a lot of horizontal room.
