About Boogaloo

Boogaloo is a display typeface that imitates letters painted quickly with a flat brush. The shapes are narrow and heavy, lean a little to the right and end in blunt, slightly uneven strokes, so that words seem to bounce along the line. Upper and lower case are both present, and the numerals share the same slant. According to the official description John Vargas Beltrán began the design in 2010 as a companion to the Salsa typeface, taking as reference the American lettering seen on Latin music LP covers of the 1960s. The family is a single Regular font with 282 glyphs and is not a variable font. Its Latin character set includes the letters needed for Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Turkish, among others. Boogaloo is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Boogaloo works

Concert and festival posters
Slanted, bouncing capitals give the name of a band or a dance night the look of hand-painted lettering.
Record sleeves and playlist covers
The design refers to 1960s LP artwork, which suits album covers, playlist tiles and gig flyers that quote that period.
Food and drink packaging
Narrow, heavy letters fit a product name across a bottle label or snack pack at a large size.
Titles in videos and cartoons
Mixed-case words stay readable at title size, and the uneven stroke ends add a hand-made tone.
