About Anek Latin

Anek Latin is a sans serif family and the Latin part of Anek, a project by the Mumbai collective Ek Type that spans ten scripts drawn from a shared pool of visual features. Its letters are compact and upright, with squarish curves, flat stroke endings and a tall lowercase; at the default width they are fairly narrow. Two variable axes shape the family: weight from 100 to 800, with eight named weights from Thin to ExtraBold, and width from 75 to 125, which moves the design from condensed to expanded. There is no italic. According to the official description, the heaviest weights bring out sharp terminals and tapered joins intended for headlines and wordmarks. The 778 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese. The project notes credit Yesha Goshar with Anek Latin, and the family is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Anek Latin works

Responsive headlines
The width axis, 75 to 125, lets a headline narrow to fit a phone column or widen on a desktop layout without a change of family.
Interface text
Named weights from Thin 100 to ExtraBold 800 give fine steps for labels, body copy and emphasis.
Wordmarks
The boldest weights, with sharp terminals and tapered joins, were drawn with wordmarks and headlines in mind.
Multi-script brand systems
Anek exists for ten scripts, so a brand using Anek Latin can match it with the sibling family for an Indian script.
Dense tables and cards
At width 75 the condensed forms fit long labels into table headers and narrow cards.
