About Anek Bangla

Anek Bangla is a sans serif typeface for the Bengali script with a companion Latin, one of ten script versions in the Anek family. Ek Type, a collective of type designers in Mumbai, designed and maintains the project; the name table credits Sulekha Rajkumar for the Bangla and Yesha Goshar for the Latin. The font is variable on two axes: weight, from 100 to 800 with eight named weights, and width, from 75 to 125. The official description notes capsule-like forms at the condensed end and sharp terminals with tapered joins in the heaviest weights. In the specimen the Latin has flat-sided rounds and compact proportions. There are 811 glyphs across Bengali and Latin character sets, and no italic. The Latin includes the letters for English, German, Spanish and other Western European languages.

Where Anek Bangla works

Bengali headlines
The heaviest weights, where the description points to sharp terminals and tapered joins, give Bengali titles a strong shape.
Fitting text to a space
The 75 to 125 width axis narrows or widens a line without changing the font size.
Wordmarks in Bengali and Latin
Both scripts share the weight and width axes, so a two-script logo can be tuned as one.
Multi-script products
Anek exists in ten scripts drawn to a shared set of features, so Anek Bangla sits beside its sibling fonts in one system.
Interface text
Regular and Medium at normal width cover labels and short text in Bengali apps.
