About Afacad Flux

Afacad Flux is a sans serif family delivered as a single variable font with two axes. Weight runs from 100 to 1000, past the heaviest named weight, Black 900, and slant runs from -14 to 14 around an upright default of 0, so the letters can be inclined in either direction instead of only forwards. Nine named weights, Thin to Black, each upright and slanted, give 18 styles. In the specimen the forms lean towards the geometric: a round o, a single-storey a, a pointed apex on A, a t whose top is cut at an angle, and ascenders that rise well above a modest x-height. The font holds 833 glyphs covering Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese. Kristian Möller and Dicotype are credited as designers, the copyright notice names The Afacad Project Authors, and the license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Afacad Flux works

Interface type with fine weight steps
A continuous weight axis from 100 to 1000 lets labels, body text and headings be set at exact values instead of fixed steps.
Emphasis without a second file
Slant is an axis, so an inclined style for emphasis comes from the same font file as the upright.
Animated and interactive headings
Because slant passes through 0 from -14 to 14, a heading can swing from a backward lean to a forward lean in a transition.
Brand systems
Nine named weights from Thin to Black cover fine captions and heavy campaign lines in one family.
Vietnamese and Central European text
The 833 glyphs include Latin Extended and Vietnamese, so one file serves several language versions.
