What is Microsoft Copilot?

Microsoft Copilot is an AI assistant from Microsoft that answers questions, drafts content and generates images through conversation. The current version combines work and personal use in one experience reachable on the web, in desktop apps for Windows and Mac, in Microsoft Edge and on mobile devices; chats, history and files follow the user but stay separated by account. Copilot Chat handles everyday questions and brainstorming, Search returns answers grounded in web results or in work files, and Create produces drafts, images and study material. Several features were recently renamed: Project became Notebook, Tasks became Cowork, Deep Research became Researcher, and Study and Learn mode became Guided Learning. Bing Chat has been folded into Copilot. A free tier is open to anyone signed in with a Microsoft account, with usage limits on some capabilities, while Microsoft 365 subscriptions add the Copilot app alongside desktop Office apps and premium features.
