About Pixelify Sans

Pixelify Sans is a display typeface drawn on a coarse grid of square pixels, the look of 1980s computer graphics and video games that its official description points to. Curves are replaced by stair-steps, the diagonals of K, X and the percent sign break into separate blocks, and round letters such as O and a become boxes with clipped corners. The lowercase is wide, with short ascenders. One variable file carries a weight axis from 400 to 700 with four named weights, Regular, Medium, SemiBold and Bold; in the specimen the blocks grow thicker from one to the next while the letter shapes stay the same. There is no italic. The font contains 576 glyphs for the Latin and Latin Extended character sets plus a Cyrillic set. Stefie Justprince is named as designer, and the font is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Pixelify Sans works

Game titles and menus
Blocky letters match pixel-art graphics, and Bold 700 separates a selected menu item from the rest.
Retro-themed posters and overlays
The stair-stepped outlines recall early home computers on event artwork and stream graphics.
Scores and counters
Numerals built on the same grid as the letters suit timers, levels and score displays.
Headings on developer sites
A short heading in Pixelify Sans adds an 8-bit accent above text set in a plain family.

Things to know

One variable file
All four weights come from a single file with a 400 to 700 axis. The static files are not in this package.
No italic
Pixelify Sans is upright only.
Made for short text
Every letter is reduced to a few blocks, so the face is a display design, not a text family.
