About IBM Plex Mono

IBM Plex Mono is the fixed-width member of IBM Plex, the typeface family IBM uses as its corporate type and develops as an open-source project. In the specimen the letters i, l and r stand on slab-like feet that fill out their fixed cells, the zero is marked inside to separate it from the capital O, and the strokes are even with squared-off ends. The family has seven weights, Thin, ExtraLight, Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold and Bold, each with an italic that the makers call unexpectedly expressive: 14 static styles and no variable font. Its 1,028 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended, Cyrillic and Vietnamese. The credits name Mike Abbink and the foundry Bold Monday, and the name table adds Paul van der Laan and Pieter van Rosmalen. The fonts carry the SIL Open Font License 1.1, with Plex as a Reserved Font Name.

Where IBM Plex Mono works

Code snippets in documentation
Showing code is the role IBM assigns to the Mono within Plex, next to the Sans and Serif for prose.
Editors and terminals
The marked zero and the slab-footed i and l keep 0, O, 1 and l apart in identifiers.
Comments and annotations
Every weight has a true italic, which sets comments visibly apart from code.
Technical branding
Thin 100 to Bold 700 let a monospaced headline, a caption and a data label come from one family.
Tables and receipts
Equal character widths align columns of figures without tab stops.
