About Hind Vadodara

Hind Vadodara is a sans serif for Gujarati with a matching Latin, one of nine families in Indian Type Foundry's Hind Multi-Script system, each serving a different South Asian writing system. The letterforms have a humanist skeleton and strokes of almost even thickness that end in flat horizontal or vertical cuts, which keeps the spaces between characters clean; apertures are open, as the Latin in the specimen shows. Gujarati base characters are scaled to sit at about the height of the Latin capitals, and grow slightly with weight. The family has five weights, Light 300 to Bold 700, without italics, and each font has 839 glyphs, including Gujarati conjuncts. Hitesh Malaviya designed it for the foundry, which the official notes say first published the fonts in 2015. The name refers to Vadodara, a city in Gujarat.

Where Hind Vadodara works

Gujarati app and web interfaces
The family was developed for user interface design: flat stroke endings and open apertures keep small labels and menu items clear.
Bilingual Gujarati and English screens
Gujarati characters are scaled to the Latin capital height, so the two scripts share a line without one looking larger.
Body text on screens
Light and Regular carry paragraphs, with Medium, SemiBold and Bold for subheads and emphasis.
Signs and wayfinding in Gujarat
Near-monolinear strokes and clear counters hold their shape on signs read at a distance.
Products that span several Indian scripts
Sibling Hind families for other scripts share the same design, so a product can change script and keep one visual voice.
