Didact Gothic is a sans serif typeface built around the letter shapes children usually meet in their first years at school. In the specimen the lowercase a and g are single-storey, the o and c are close to circles, and the strokes keep an even, fairly light thickness with almost no contrast. The family consists of one Regular style; there is no bold, no italic and no variable axis. Its 1,244 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended, Cyrillic and Greek, so the same plain forms carry across three scripts. Daniel Johnson drew the original design, and according to the official notes Alexei Vanyashin of Cyreal reworked the whole font in 2017. The files are published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, and the family was added to Google Fonts in 2011.

The family contains the core letters these languages are written with:
Writing systems with glyphs in the family besides Latin: Cyrillic, Greek. These are listed as scripts, not as a promise for every language written in them.
Character sets found in the files: cyrillic, cyrillic-ext, greek, greek-ext, latin, latin-ext. The language list is a check of required letters against the font, not a promise of typographic quality in each language.

Didact Gothic has one weight, Regular 400. There is no bold or italic, and it is not a variable font.
That is what Didact Gothic was made for: its letters follow the forms pupils usually see in early schooling, such as the single-storey a and g, and the official notes describe it as suited to literacy work.
Didact Gothic includes the letters needed for English and other Latin-script languages such as French, German, Turkish and Polish, as well as Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and Greek.
