About Delius

Delius is a handwriting-style typeface made for comic-book lettering. Natalia Raices built its stroke on a round marker: in the specimen each line swells slightly where the pen lands and lifts, corners are soft, and the path of each letter follows the movement of a writing hand. The letters are upright and unjoined, with a single-storey a and g, a looped k and an ampersand written in one continuous movement. Delius belongs to a larger group that also includes Delius Unicase and Delius Swash Caps. This family has one style, Regular 400, in a static file with 270 glyphs and the Latin subset only, which limits it to Western European languages. Delius was added to Google Fonts in 2011, the copyright notice names Natalia Raices, and the font is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Delius works

Comic speech balloons
Comic-book lettering is the stated purpose, and the marker stroke matches inked artwork.
Children's worksheets and picture books
Upright, unjoined letters with single-storey a and g resemble the shapes taught in early handwriting.
Captions and annotations
A marker-drawn line marks a note as a comment beside typeset or photographed material.
Informal labels and signs
Soft corners and swelling stroke ends give a short label a hand-written look while staying upright and clear.
