About Belanosima

Belanosima is a geometric sans serif made for a practical job. The official notes call it a DocRepair font: it is meant to help documents comply with the ISO/IEC 29500 standard by standing in for a font a file asks for, while keeping text reflow in Office Open XML documents to a minimum. Its drawing is based on Josefin Sans, a geometric family with a vintage flavour that goes back to sans serifs of the 1920s. In the specimen the letters are fairly heavy even at Regular, with circular o shapes, a small lowercase beside tall capitals and a tilted bar on the e. Three weights are included, Regular 400, SemiBold 600 and Bold 700, with no italics, and the family is not a variable font. The 265 glyphs cover the basic Latin character set. Belanosima is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Where Belanosima works

Office documents that need a fallback
Belanosima was built so that a document calling for an unavailable font keeps its line breaks and page count when opened.
Slide and report headings
Regular already reads as a strong weight, and SemiBold and Bold add two heavier steps for titles.
Posters with a 1920s flavour
Round bowls and a small lowercase carry the vintage geometric look inherited from Josefin Sans.
Short labels and badges
Three sturdy weights hold up in a few words on a sticker, a tag or a button.

Fonts that pair with Belanosima

Josefin Sans Sans Serif

Belanosima is drawn from Josefin Sans, so the two share their geometry; Josefin Sans adds lighter weights and italics for the text around a Belanosima heading.

Suggestions come from simple rules on the records: a contrasting classification and enough weights to carry body text. They are a starting point, not a verdict.
