## About Whisper

Whisper is a calligraphic script typeface with a strong forward slant and very thin strokes. In the specimen the lowercase is small, narrow and angular, with long descenders on f, g, p and y, while the capitals are several times wider and open with sweeping entry strokes that run under the letters beside them. Some lowercase letters join and others stop short, as in quick pen writing. The family has one Regular style and is not a variable font. Its 643 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese. According to the official notes, the design dates from the early 1990s. Robert Leuschke is credited as the designer, and the font is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The hairline weight and tiny lowercase call for large sizes.

## Where it works

- **Names on invitations**: A wide capital followed by the compact lowercase turns a name into the centrepiece of a card.
- **Signature-style wordmarks**: The uneven joins and fast, angular strokes read as a signature written with a pen.
- **Short quotations and dedications**: A single line at a large size keeps the thin strokes visible; several lines in a row become hard to follow.
- **Vietnamese names and greetings**: Whisper includes the accented letters Vietnamese needs, which many script faces leave out.

## Things to know

- **Very light strokes**: The lines are thin at every point of the letter. On screens and in small print they can break up, so test at the final size.
- **Capitals are far wider than the lowercase**: In the specimen a row of capitals overlaps heavily. They are drawn to begin a word, not to be set in sequence.
- **One style**: Whisper has a single Regular style, with no bold cut.
